15th January 2003:
New screens of Blitzkrieg
We've got freshly-released screenshots from CDV's latest World War II strategy game, Blitzkrieg!
Posted by Marc Hull - PC - UK and Europe

CDV have arguably produced some of the best realtime strategy games to hit PC over the last few years, and have created some excellent franchises such as Cossacks: European Wars. However, as if those weren't enough, they're preparing to unleash yet another one onto the unsuspecting public later this year. This one's called Blitzkrieg, and shares more than a little in common with another of CDV's big series', Sudden Strike.

The general idea of the game is that you're thrust back in time to the start of World War II, and it's up to you to control Allied, Russian or German troops throughout a range of missions that take place from 1939 to 1945. However, in an attempt to better Sudden Strike, Blitzkrieg offers more historical accuracy, full 3D landscapes and units, over 150 vehicles, 40 kinds of infantry and 250 different types of building. However, possibly the most exciting aspect of the game is its extensionality, where a built-in scenario editor allows you to create your own missions and add your own maps, models and sounds. There's even a random mission generator that should provide loads of replay value.

Overall, Blitzkrieg sounds like the definitive World War II strategy game; enough to even topple the great Sudden Strike II. We hope to have more details and screenshots before the game's released later this Spring.
