CDV may have many big-name games such as Imperium Galactica III and Breed on the horizon, but don't underestimate their potential sleeper hits either. Grom is such a game; we've seen and heard little of it recently, but these new screenshots show that it's well on the way to becoming an accomplished action-RPG when it's released next month. Currently best described as a mix of adventuring, tactical combat and story-advancing, with a vein of humour running throughout, the game certainly has a lot to live up to.
The basic idea behind the title is that you take on the role of unlikely hero Colonel Grom in his campaign against the Nazi quest for power. They've recently discovered the whereabouts of the Lost City, where twelve ancient and mysterious weapons are said to reside, each with the capability of removing an entire nation, and it's up to you to stop them. The graphics contain a Final-Fantasy style mix of polygonal characters super-imposed onto pre-rendered backdrops, although, in a break from the norm, the combat is all done in realtime.
With the player being able to control up to 5 characters at a time over 7 chapters, totalling nearly 100 locations, Grom could well be a title worth looking at if you're searching for something a bit different. We hope to have more details soon!
