Red Faction 2 was one of the best first person shooters to grace the PlayStation 2 last year, and with good reason. While the original was pretty accomplished in its own right, the second game added team-based play, more character development, a stronger storyline and generally more graphical shine. However, like the first game, Red Faction 2 isn't staying a PS2 exclusive for long. Soon Xbox, GameCube and PC owners will be able to get their grubby mits on the game too, and while Sony lovers may have had the game for an extra few months, it turns out that good things come to those who wait.
Having just got hold of some early screens from the PC port of the game, we can safely say that it's coming along well, with all the detail of the PS2 version preserved, and for those who have a fast graphics card, it should look great at a high resolution with anti-aliasing turned on. Although little in the way of extra features have been announced, considering the excellent job Volition did converting the original, we'd expect them to take full advantage of online and LAN gaming this time round too. However, with the level complexity upped considerably for the second game, whether or not a level editor will be included this time remains to be seen.
If the PC version of the original Red Faction is anything to go by, this could well be one of the best FPSs around when it hits shop shelves in April. Until then, keep your eyes peeled on Silicon Fusion for further updates!
