First GTA 4 details emerge
Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series can rejoice - a new installment is under development, although it may be a while until we get to see any of it.

Although it's only been a year and a half since Grand Theft Auto 3 hit games consoles back in 2001, and even less time since the wonderful Vice City add-on hit store shelves, fans of the series are still absolutely gagging for information on the next title in the series, GTA 4. With the third game being, quite simply, one of the best and most complex games to appear on any console in recent years, you might also be wondering what the title's developers, Rockstar, hope to add to the series. However, if the first glimmers of information on this elusive new game are anything to go by, they must have a pretty good idea where they want to take it.
The GTA 3 engine is widely regarded as a masterpiece, being able to keep track of expansive cities, complex physics and some pretty neat AI while still running at a respectable frame rate, but Rockstar obviously believe it has reached its limit, opting to rebuild the new game from the ground up instead of modify the existing code. Currently, a meagre team of five designers and programmers are busy writing the core code for the new game, which is expected to target future generation platforms (such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 2) as opposed to current hardware. Meanwhile, the rest of the development studio is busy creating a wealth of new missions for a further add-on to GTA 3 which should be unveiled later this year, and is intended to keep gamers satisfied during the potentially long wait to GTA 4.
Be sure that as soon as any more details on this high-profile game come to light, we'll be ready to report it here on Silicon Fusion. However, until then, make sure you check back for further information on the new GTA 3 expansion very soon!
