New screens of Mario Golf (E3 2003)
It may not quite match the anticipation of Mario Kart, but Mario Golf is still looking mighty tasty in these brand new E3 screens!

Mario Golf may sound like an unusual title, but after the intrepid plumber has already taken on the likes of karting and tennis with incredible success, maybe we shouldn't be too surprised. With Nintendo having an amazing nack of being able to take any sport, throw in some of their best known characters and some insane rules, and produce something spectacular, there's little chance that this title will break tradition. With the ability to play on both a convensional golf course and a special one set around the Mushroom Kingdom, complete with warp pipes, piranha plants, chain chomps and thwomps, you should be able to fulfil all your mini-golfing needs when the game arrives early next year, and with support for up to four players this has the potential to topple Super Monkey Ball as the ultimate party game on the GameCube.
Fortunately, while golf may not be the most attractive of sports, the title's graphics are looking well on par if these new screenshots are anything to go by. Each of the characters looks to be beautifully recreated without a hint of jagginess, and all manner of special effects seem to be used, including pyrotechnics when you hit a particularly powerful shot. You might even go as far to say that the game looks better than Mario Kart, which still seems to have some aliasing issues, but with both titles running at vastly different speeds it's difficult to compare.
Overall, Mario Golf is certainly looking like a promising title, and with features like GBA connectivity through Mario Golf Advance Tour, should be yet another triple-A Mario game when it hits shelves in early 2004.
