Gran Turismo 4 details (E3 2003)
We have the first batch of screens and information on the latest edition to Sony's award-wining racing series.
Posted by John Grothier - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

Sony have just released details of Gran Turismo 4, the latest edition to their award-wining racing series. Following on from the hugely successful Gran Turismo 3 A-spec, Gran Turismo 4 will feature more authentic racing with some new features that will focus on more cars, tracks, racing modes and online gameplay via the Network Adaptor. Developed by Polyphony Digital, Gran Turismo 4 also features an all-new physics engine and revolutionary technology to provide a near-realistic racing simulation.

'In Gran Turismo 4, automotive racing is much more than a sport, it is a lifestyle as we take advantage of the highly successful game mechanics of its predecessor and present an even more, in-depth racing experience with all new features,' said Ami Blaire, of Sony Computer Entertainment. 'Due to its cutting-edge technology, enhanced online mode and worldwide anticipation, we are confident that Gran Turismo 4 will meet the demand of our fans and automotive enthusiasts while reaching out to new PlayStation 2 users.'

Gran Turismo 4 will include all the real characteristics of the cars, with the physics engine taking into account weight, speed, friction, and wind resistance. Other major graphical improvements will include some new technology which will blend real-time racing action with a photo-fixed background to immerse players in real-life environments such as New York City and the Grand Canyon. Some highly detailed cars and environments will create broadcast-quality graphics, which will include light and competitor car reflections on the player's automobile to leaves on a tree shaking in the wind. The online mode will feature racing for up to six other players, who can interact and chat with each other while racing. Gran Turismo 4 will feature more than 500 authentic cars encompassing manufacturers from around the world, with a range from vintage to modern vehicles, as well as a staggering 100 tracks to race on.

Silicon Fusion will bring you much more on Gran Turismo 4 before its release this Christmas, but until then we have the first batch of screenshots for you.
