First person shooters aren't exactly rare finds these days, and with big series like Unreal, Doom and Half-Life making big impacts in the market it's certainly not an easy genre to break into. However, Activision hope that their new title, Trinity, will have an edge over the competition, and not just by sharing a name from a certain film character. Playing as "Nightstalker", a bio-technically enhanced, one-man vigilante force, gamers will have access to various special abilities, such as seeing through walls, warping from point-to-point and pull off all manner of acrobatic stunts.
The basic plot of the title is set in a dark, alternate future, where a deadly plague threatens to destroy New Orleans, and it's up to you to uncover the source of this mystery virus and save the city from the impending disaster. The game will have its fair share of Half-Life-ish story advancing through cut-scenes, as you attempt to uncover a deep conspiracy, but the meat will remain as an 'all-guns-blazing' first-person shooter. As well as having access to a large array of weapons, you'll also be able to pilot vehicles, hack into high-tech installations and perform "Flash" abilities, where the speed of the game slows down while you perform various moves to engage enemies while avoiding taking damage (remind you of a certain film, perchance?).
Depsite some obvious cliches, Trinity looks as if it could well turn out as a very solid title when it hits stores early next year on both PC and Xbox. With the like's of Kingpin and Return to Castle Wolfenstein behind them, the developers (Gray Matter Studios) certainly know how to make a good shooter, and we look forward to seeing further details later this year, so keep your eyes on Silicon Fusion!
