Activision and TDK are working together to publish this movie-to-game sequel; we have the first screenshots and details straight from E3.

With the original Shrek film being such a hit, the chances of a sequel were always going to be pretty high, and despite the game not generating the same kind of impact there's was also little chance that TDK wouldn't take up the chance to milk the licence again. So, a year on, we get to see the first glimpses of Shrek 2: The Game, and while the first was an average, fairly typical platform/adventure game, the sequel promises to differ from the norm a bit.
This time, players have to control a team of four characters, selectable from Shrek and seven of his friends, five of which are straight from the second movie while two are completely original. Players can switch to control any of the team of four, and the key to progressing through each level will be using each character's special abilities to solve various puzzles, fight monsters and complete missions. Much like the original, the game's environments will be taken straight from the film, with a couple of new ones thrown in for good measure. There'll also be a multiplayer mode, where three other players can join in and take control of the three other characters in a team, so that you can complete the main game cooperatively.
Despite the terrible track record that film-to-game titles have, it at least sounds as if the developers are putting an effort into making this new Shrek game not another stareotypical platformer. Whether they'll be successful or not remains to be seen, but no doubt the movie will provide the game with all the sales it needs. We should have more details closer to the June 2004 release date, but in the meantime here are some early screenshots from the PlayStation 2 version.
