Breed (E3 2003)
CDV software invites us to BREED at E3.

We've been following Breed for a while now and E3's showing did not disappoint. A fully playable demo was on hand and it allowed us for the first time a brief hands-on. Breed has been touted as a Halo-esque game and thats not a bad thing, in fact Breed boasts hell of a lot more hardware and vehicles on offer.
Breed was also on NVIDIA's stand for its 'The Way It's Meant To Be Played (TWIMTBP) programme'. The programme is designed to showcase the very best PC games which take advantage of the hardware features of NVIDIA's award-winning GeForce technology and it shows as Breed is absolutely jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
So how does it play? The initial mission starts you as one of the crew on a Dropship that blasts off from the hangar of the Darwin (the name of this huge mothership that is your base of operations). The transition from Space to Earth is all done in real-time and not scripted scenes which only made us more excited. You are then treated to using one of the attached side guns of the side of the Dropship and your first objective is to wipe out three early warning system radars before you land. If you fail, an unfriendly welcome awaits you as the Breed will be there waiting to blast you as you land. Pass it and your LZ will be fairly clear allowing you the advantage of surprise.
At any time I was allowed to switch characters in the game and issue them basic squad commands. Nothing deep or intricate like Raven Shield but the game as we were told will be tactical but not to the point that it will put off action shooters who are use to Quake and Unreal. The AI provided covering fire and were quick to take out hostiles and were frantically dodging and rolling to avoid fire. The next thing we noticed was that trees and buildings were fully destructible. You have to see it in action to fully appreciate the level of detail that the developers are aiming for.
That's all we have to report on for now. Things are shaping up nicely for Breed and we'll be keeping a close eye on this game and will report further when we get more play time on it. In the meantime, check out these stunning new screenshots of Breed that we managed to get hold of.
