27th May 2003:
Vectorman announced (E3 2003)
Sega are reviving yet another classic Megadrive character in the form of Vectorman for the PlayStation 2.
Posted by Marc Hull - PlayStation 2 - UK and Europe

Vectorman originally made his debut on the Megadrive as a robot made entirely from spheres. With each sphere moving independently of one another, the animation was super-smooth and the game's concept was quite groundbreaking for its time. However, since then he has become yet another classic videogame character to be put into hiding, with not even a murmer of a revival on either Saturn or Dreamcast. It's only now that having gone 'multi-format' and desperate to jog people's memories of the Megadrive days that Sega have decided to rejuvenate franchise by comissioning Canadian-based developers Psuedo Interactive to develop a new PlayStation 2 title.

The idea behind the game is that you take on the role of Vectorman, a robotic solider on a quest to find his creator and free his land from the tyranical rule of another robot called Volt. Playing from a third-person perspective, you must use some of the game's 15 weapons and 25 upgrades to battle against Volt's evil minions and progress the story. With an emphasis on freedom, Vectorman allows players to explore the world and then decide whether to take the 'all-guns-blazing' approach or opt for a more subtle sniping tactic. Time has also been spent populating the game world with other robots going about their daily lives, who will react to Vectorman's every move through an advanced AI engine.

Unfortunately, the game has yet to be confirmed for a European release, with only Sega of America publishing it on their release schedule. However, we're confident that when the European release schedules are sorted out after the havoc of E3 it will be picked up by either Infogrames or Sony. We'll be sure to keep you posted with the latest news as it unfolds.
