Sonic Team has a new hero (E3 2003)
The creative genius behind the Sonic games and Nights has produced yet another new, original character.

Although fans may not like it, Sonic Team are always trying to break away from producing endless sequels and instead trying to produce a constant stream of new stuff. Fortunately, they seem to be able to pull it off, with all their new franchises usually receiving great reviews; remember Nights, Chu Chu Rocket and Samba De Amigo when they first appeared? So, when the genius behind the character design of Sonic and Nights announces a new videogames hero, it's probably a good idea to listen; even if it revolves around chickens and eggs.

Yep, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is the latest title to emerge from the famous development team, and while it may not have the same kind of ring to it as Sonic the Hedgehog, the concept still sounds pretty neat. The idea behind the game is that a magical kingdom is being controlled by an evil king who has put it in permanent nighttime, and it's up to young Billy and his suit of special powers to turn the dark into light. He does this by using magical eggs, which hatch special creatures that Billy can use to complete puzzles in each of the levels.

Each of the worlds that Billy explores look as if they've come right out of a fairytale, with bright colours and weird creatures roaming them. Meanwhile, Billy himself is highly detailed, with a range of facial expressions and a power suit that makes him resemble a chicken. Although the concept may sound quite 'kiddy', we're sure that Billy Hatcher will turn out to be a great deal of fun when it arrives on the GameCube before Christmas.
