When Nokia announced their N-Gage, they knew it would be almost doomed to failure against the mighty Game Boy Advance without the backing of some major games companies. After all, Nintendo has a pretty spotless reputation in the games-making business, and so Nokia needed all the third party support they could get to challenge the might of franchises like Mario and Zelda that have appeared on the GBA. Fortunately, there were plenty of big names willing to sign up for development, and few are more prestigeous than the likes of Sega, who weren't just pledging support, but were bringing some of their most popular franchises to the console.
One such franchise is their Sonic series, which is gracing the N-Gage in the form of an enhanced port of Sonic Advance. Once again you'll be able to take control of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles or Amy and play through six challenging zones, each with two acts, whilst fighting Dr Eggman's minions, albeit this time on a slightly different screen resolution. While Sonic doesn't exactly suit the N-Gage's tall and thin display (in fact, why Nokia chose this over the traditional short and long style will probably remain one of the world's many mysteries), the game is still looking pretty neat running on the system, and as long as the speed and smoothness of the original can be maintained this should be a big attraction for Sonic fans who haven't picked up the original yet.
We hope to have more information closer to the game's October release date, but in the meantime check out these first screenshots straight from E3!
