Mystery of the Druids is a new 'point-and-click' adventure game where you take on the role of a Scotland Yard detective investigating various murders that have been happening in modern-day England. As Brent Halligan, you must solve puzzles to discover clues to the person behind the murders, which eventually take you through a deep storyline involving ancient Druid rituals. After the first half of the game the main character has to go back in time in the hope that clues left in the past when the first Druid sacrifices were made will help with the investigation in modern day. The story certainly sounds interesting enough to make a good adventure game, and the graphics are shaping up well too. The pre-rendered backdrops contain a great amount of detail, and the 3D characters are solid and well animated, even down to the lip-sync when they talk. Fortunately, you won't need a high-powered PC to run it either, since the developers promise that a 200MHz Pentium PC with no 3D acceleration is sufficient. In terms of puzzles, Mystery of the Druids seems set to have some of the most taxing ones yet, requiring the usual 'slightly obscure' sense of logic typical of adventure games. Certainly don't expect to get through this game just by trying every possible combination of items - you need to search every area with your mouse pointer to make sure you don't miss an important clue and think about how to solve each problem. So far, Mystery of the Druids is certainly looking like a promising game, and adventure fans who prefer serious point-and-click games as opposed to Monkey Island or Sam n' Max should definitely keep an eye on this. If you want to find out more about it, be sure to download the playable demo of the game from www.mysteryofthedruids.com - it's well worth a look. We'll have a full review of the game soon!
