9th September 2002:
Racing Evoluzione
Atari gives Xbox owners the chance to create and market their own car brand in this part-racing, part-management simulation.
Posted by Marc Hull - Xbox - UK and Europe

Although other games have allowed you to live in the shoes of a professional racer, building up your career through winning races, or choose from an enormous range of real-life cars and get to race against some of the best vehicles available, Atari is going one better. Their new racing game, Racing Evoluzione, actually allows you to set up your own brand, build your own cars, and then not only race them but sell them to the (virtual) public.

While many think that racing is all about winning hideously large amounts of prize money, for most car manufacturers this is only half the story. They aren't just interested in picking up a proportion of the team's profits, but also in getting their brand promoted to those who avidly follow the sport. Take, for instance, Ferrari, who are currently thrashing the competition in the Formula One scene - they aren't just winning for prestige, but also to keep up the massive following of Ferrari-owning fans that turn out to watch each race. Just take a look at the next F1 broadcast to see what I mean; the stands are like a sea of red, interspersed with large flags containing the familiar 'prancing horse' design.

In Racing Evoluzione, winning races isn't just about showing off, it's about marketing your car to all those motor-heads out there. The more races you win, the more popular your brand becomes, the more cars you sell, and the more money you make. More money then allows you to expand your business, build more impressive cars, and even improve your premises. Yep - the game gives you your own company office as a menu screen, and as your brand gets more popular, so the office will evolve into a bigger and better place from which you can plan your market domination.

Overall, Racing Evoluzione has both an innovative concept and, if this first screenshots are anything to go by, some pretty impressive graphics. We hope to have more information on this potentially hot title soon!
