XIII, pronounced thirteen, is a conspiracy ridden FPS title that features cel-shaded graphics and some unique flashback visuals. XIII plays like a completely interactive graphic novel that creates a visually stunning effect unique to the action genre.
XIII features a epic conspiracy which will lead the reciently memory wiped player to unravel clues in order to uncover a sinister plot against themself. There are no surprises to learn that the U.S. goverment, and even the president all feature in the story. The game opens with the player in control of a lead character who is washed up on a beach. Suffering from severe amnesia and injuries, there is no recollection of who, where or what he is. You start with just one clue; your shoulder has the roman numerals XIII tatooed on it, and you find yourself with a key to a safe deposit box for a New York bank...
XIII features stunning next-generation 'Unreal Engine' technology, with cel-shaded graphics that are unique to first person shooters. The game world allows for complete interactivity, and players can utilize every object in the game as a weapon. You can even take an enemy hostage and use them as a human shield against an onslaught of bullets!
There are many weapons in XIII inluding the standard Beretta, an M16, the all-important Shotgun, an AK 47, sniper rifle. Silent weapons play a huge part in the stealth aspects of XIII where there are tense scenes that require the player to remain silent and undercover. These include harpoons, a crossbow and throwing knives, and there are also inaimate objects that can be used as weapons such as a broken bottle and even chairs! XIII, from Ubi Soft, is set for release for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox and PC in 2003.
