Despite Electronic Arts pulling GoldenEye: Rogue Agent from Game Stars Live earlier this month, we are still optimistic about this new take on the Bond FPS. The premise of this new title set in the Bond universe is - Why save the world when you can rule it? This time you play the villain, giving players a chance to see the dark side of Bond, as you play a cold-hearted, high-rolling baddie.
In GoldenEye: Rogue Agent the focus of this first-person shooter shifts from that of 007 himself to the corrupt underworld and its criminal masterminds. As an aspiring 00 agent dismissed from MI6 for reckless brutality, you're recruited by villain Auric Goldfinger in a ruthless war against Dr. No for control of the Bond underworld. A brutal encounter with Dr. No costs you an eye, but Goldfinger's technicians replace it with a gold-hued, synthetic and upgradeable eye, earning you the name 'GoldenEye'. As you can see in the link to the video below, GoldenEye: Rogue Agent will feature some truly evil A.I. and will allow the player to use death-traps to kill and maim your adversaries in some very twisted and imaginative ways. The graphics engine running the game will feature 'Stunt action physics' allowing for some serious carnage as you make light work of your enemies, electrocute them, burn them or simply toss them from the roof. Rogue Agent also features duel weapons for maximum firepower and as GoldenEye, your artificial eye will have some serious powers. See enemies through cover using MRI vision, manipulate electronics and weapons using the EM Hack, deflect damage with the EM Shield, and send enemies flying across the room with the Magnetic Field.
As you wreak havoc you will begin to make your unrelenting rise through the ranks of villainy. As you progress thorough the game, players will encounter such legendary allies and enemies as Oddjob, Dr. No, Goldfinger, Scaramanga, Xenia Onatopp, and Pussy Galore on globe-spanning missions of vengeance and demolition. As well as a strong single-player mission structure, Rogue Agent will allow for some serious multiplayer split-screen, and online gameplay for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
As you would expect in a Bond title, exotic locations are aplenty, and players will be able to travel to famous Bond locations like the top of the Golden Gate Bridge from A View to a Kill, the Pyramids from The Spy who Loved Me and the satellite Uplink from GoldenEye as well as original locations including Auric Enterprises, Hoover Dam, and Hong Kong. The sound in the game is also and important feature with some fantastic Hollywood voice talent that includes Christopher Lee, who is reprising his role as the villainous Francisco Scaramanga from The Man with the Golden Gun and Judi Dench, who returns as M and has appeared in four James Bond films to date. Music in the game is composted by DJ Paul Oakenfold, who is responsible for creating the game's overarching musical personality with hard-driving, rhythmic beats hand-crafted for every mission.
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent Video (MPEG 17.6MB)
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is shaping up to be something very different indeed, and with a well crafted single player experience and online play for both consoles, we can't wait to cackle like a true villain when the game is released this December.
