In Sid Meier's Pirates! for the Xbox players will get the chance to take the leading role of a Pirate Captain in the 17th century Caribbean, while amassing fortune and fame in an attempt to seize your rightful place as one of the most revered, and also feared, pirates in history. As a Pirate Captain players will have their skills tested as they explore the high seas and exotic ports in a richly detailed 3D world.
As your reputation and skills grow, so will the size and quality of your crew, and your ability to take on larger enemy ships, raid and plunder heavily fortified ports, and locate ancient treasure. In this version there is a whole cast of interesting and dangerous characters to meet, mysteries to solve, exotic island destinations to discover, and also powerful alliances to forge.
In addition to the features found in the acclaimed PC version, Xbox owners can grab a controller and challenge up to three friends or AI opponents to an arcade-style ship battle in 'Vs mode', complete with power-ups, different arenas, extensive stats, and spectacular splintering collisions.
In the main game players can sneak in and out of towns, escape from prisons and avoid adversaries - or if you would rather - catch them by surprise and incapacitate them! As a Captain you can command and dispatch landing parties of buccaneers in strategic battles to take over entire cities.
The developers have included new 'Even the Odds' action sequences give you a chance to level the playing field when you're outmatched, and players can also upload your high scores and compare your pirating prowess with your friends and foes using Xbox Live. There will also be downloadable content which is expected to be sail emblems, flags, and yet to be revealed content packs.
Firaxis have also included over 200 unique bonus content items to unlock such as concept art and behind-the-scenes footage from developer, Firaxis Games. The game will feature widescreen and 480p HDTV support, (unknown if HDTV will feature yet in the PAL version), all this to help bring the full excitement of high seas piracy into your living room.
