Rome was not built in a day, indeed for many years it hung like a thread suspended in the wind, where a single sharp cut could have ended it, closing before it even began one of the greatest Empires that the world has ever seen. Rome was built by determination, skill, a drive to expand and succeed and by luck. It was also built on the back of titans of myth, legend and history. From the twins Romulus and Remus, through the republican years, Gaius Julius Caesar and his successors, names have been synonymous with the rise, dominance and fall of Rome.
Now in a few short weeks you too will have the chance to sally forth and show that you too are made of the stuff that built Rome.
Legion Arena, the latest game to come from Black Bean Games and developed by Slitherine, the UK based creators is edging ever closer to completion and we have been given a sneak peek at it.
Legion Arena is a massive combat game that encompasses elements of strategy, planning and tactics with a blend of Role-Playing ideas that gives you a little extra. All the thrills of mass battles with an opportunity to build and improve your army, what you have is what you decide you want. With a fully described set of campaigns the premise for each is the same, build your army from scratch and go forth battering seven shades of Lorica Segmenta out of them, be it as the mighty Roman Army or the doughty Celts. Along the way you will have opportunity to improve the units under your command, supply them with better weapons, standards to rally the troops to or indeed swell them to a true force to be reckoned with. Using money and fame earned to do so and quite a bit more.
Or if the idea of wading in and not worrying about the RPG elements there will be an option to go into true RTS mode and slaughter as many opponents as you may wish. Within the campaigns there will be different styles of mission on offer, from survive this long to kill this number of enemy soldiers to eliminating an enemy general, each using different tactics to achieve them. Legion Arena also offers a clean and easy to use interface, with the chance to alter tactics from one to another as the flow of the battle waxes and wanes all accessible with a click.
Above all Legion Arena, will offer a chance to carve out history in your name, for the Glory of Rome or its downfall, an opportunity to be part of history, to make history and above all to become larger than history.
Legion Arena is due out on October 21st
