15th April 2003:
Midtown Madness 3
We have a look at this eagerly awaited Xbox Live enabled racer.
Posted by John Grothier - Xbox - UK and Europe

Midtown Madness 3 promises to provide players with madcap, over-the-top racing, in two of the world's most beautiful cities; Paris and Washington, DC. Midtown Madness 3 will feature more than 30 unique vehicles in several different racing modes such as Blitz, Checkpoint and Cruise, but Midtown will also have a strong single player Career mode that will feature 14 different driving careers, and if that was not enough - Midtown Madness 3 will be Xbox Live enabled, allowing for some frantic online races through the busy streets of Paris and Washington.

Players will be treated to some wide-open racing in two living, breathing cities - each city is highly detailed, fully researched renditions of Paris and Washington. Both cities will be complete with traffic, pedestrians, hidden routes, shortcuts and hideouts throughout each of the cities.

In Career mode players can work through over 50 missions spanning 14 varied driving careers which will include, a limousine driver, pizza deliverer, taxi driver, secret agent and police officer. New careers, vehicles and challenges are unlocked as players complete a series of missions to progress through the game. Diverse vehicles including licensed cars from top manufacturers and vehicles such as city buses or taxis will all feature, and downloadable content will be available via Xbox Live.

Multiplayer modes will include several different game types, and Xbox Live support will feature specific multiplayer games for up to eight players. Gamers will have four exclusive game modes available for Xbox Live or via System Link. In Capture the Gold players must race through the city to try and collect the most gold. Whoever gets the most gold, is the winner. Stayaway is the reverse version of the schoolyard game 'tag' in which instead of trying to 'tag' someone so that they become 'it', the objective is to stay 'it' for as long as possible. The longer a driver stays 'it' the more points that driver will earn. Tag will play exactly the same as the classic schoolyard game, but the twist here is there's a time limit on how long you can be 'it' before you're eliminated from the game. Also available for team play where teammates will help you in your cause as either an 'it' or 'not it'. Finally Hunter will create unique tension that will switch your loyalties to other players. The mode starts off with one player as the Hunter, and as he smashes into other players, the Prey, they too become Hunters in pursuit of the remaining Preys. Microsoft promise that this multiplayer mode will be like Night of the Living Dead at 180 mph.

Midtown Madness 3 will be released for Xbox and Xbox Live this summer, and promises fantastic graphics and audio to provide a fully interactive racing experience. We hope to bring you much more on this exciting racer soon, but until then we have these stunning screenshots of Midtown Madness 3 in action.
