The Hobbit was one on the first books I read as a child that really transported me into another world, the world of Middle-earth. And if it were not for the success of The Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings saga would never have been born. Now Sierra Entertainment invite you to take a step back from the War of the Ring, to the leafy Shire and take control of Hobbit Bilbo Baggins in an adventure so important, that it would eventually re-shape Middle-earth itself. The Hobbit plays as a third-person action adventure, as players will get the chance to explore the mystical world of Middle-earth, complete with dangers and puzzles to solve. As Bilbo, players will have to jump gaping chasms, climb treacherous mountains, and battle fearsome enemies.
As you travel through Middle-earth you will get the chance to meet the enchanting race of Elves, the always battle-ready Dwarves, a particularly powerful Wizard by the name of Gandalf, and some hungry Trolls and Goblins. As Bilbo gets further from the Shire and into the dark depths of the forest of Mirkwood, who knows what other dangers lurk - unless, of course, you have read the book.
The developers, Inevitable Entertainment, promise to follow the story accurately, and as so, all of your favourite locations will be included in the final game. Travel across Middle-earth from Hobbiton to the Lonely Mountain and also take part in the historic Battle of the Five Armies. All of J.R.R. Tolkien's characters will feature in the game, and as such you may seek guidance from Gandalf, and meet legendary characters Thorin and Elrond. Sneaky Gollum will also make an appearance, as well as the fearsome dragon Smaug.
The Hobbit will feature some truly massive levels in recognizable areas as Rivendell, Mirkwood, Laketown, and the Lonely Mountain. Over 30 different types of enemies will try to prevent Bilbo from completing his quest, and players will have to use their brain if they wish to see our reluctant hero succeed. The Hobbit promises to be a true adventure game, combining the best elements of action, stealth, role-playing, and puzzle solving. The combat system will also be 'deep' as Bilbo's five different abilities will change depending on how well, and what you do in the game.
We hope to bring you much more on The Hobbit before its release this coming September, but until then we have some gorgeous shots of Middle-earth for you.
