Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$
Wario has a new game on the GBA and it's unlike anything out there. It is undoubtedly one of the most original, quirky and entertaining games period. Find out why in our full review.

Few words can describe Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$, from the very moment you pop it into your GBA console and hit the 'ON' button you get nothing but weird, quirky, weirder and quirkier. This is without a doubt one of the most if not the most wacky game ever released on any format. Words that come to mind when trying to describe Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ range from bizarre, obscene, original beyond belief, addictive and entertaining.

The story is simple, enjoyable and humourous to watch. Wario is picking his nose while watching TV (no honestly, there really is a scene of Wario actually picking his nose) and sees a commercial about a new game that is selling like hotcakes, not wanting to miss out; Wario decides to start a company of his own with the help of his friends. Each friend has a special theme ranging from IQ games, classic Nintendo games to the plain absurd and indescribable.

Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ throws more than two hundred different five-second challenges and you'll not only have to figure out what to do and how to do it, you'll also need to complete them before the timer on the level runs out and you move on to the next mini-game. The clues offered in order to pass each mini-game are in the form of single word clues at the start of the challenge. However, seeing as only the D-pad and A button are ever used in any of the games, it's not terribly difficult to figure out what's necessary and it soon becomes a case of common sense and instinct. This simplicity in controls is what makes Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ so inviting to those that not only play videogames on a casual basis, but for gaming veterans as well. The challenge is also there as you get better because the speed of the mini-games increase and the tasks will require precise timing in order to progress.

The mini-games are grouped together by theme, and presented by one of Wario's chums. For example, 9-Volt (a whiz techno kid) has variations of old Nintendo games, and Orbulon (a stereotypical alien) has IQ test games. Starting with four lives, the mini-games come one after another, getting progressively faster until a final boss stage. The boss stages are a more complex game (it isn't timed) that will most likely require some sort of nimble reflex and quick thinking combined in order to pass. The first time through ends after finishing the boss stage, but later trips through the game keep going, getting progressively harder and faster. It may not sound like much, but, taken as a whole, Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ is one of the most addictive GameBoy games ever. Even if you've beaten the game first time round and defeated Wario's final task, you haven't come close to the unlocking the full potential of the game. Playing it through again will also offer a whole lot of additional, unlockable rewards. Unlocking all of thee 200 micro-games will prove challenging but highly rewarding to those of you who are willing to endure it and why not? Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ is one of the best pick up and play games ever conceived.

Graphically, Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ does not break technical boundaries, it does however have an interesting style that suits the mood and upbeat tempo of the game. Special mention however, should go the sound department as very few GBA games even come close to being on par. Not only are they crisp and clear, Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ carries with it plenty of songs and vocals and we kid you not when you say they are catchy, original and pleasant throughout.

Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ took about a couple of hours to complete the main challenge but be warned, this is one of the most addictive and original games to have come out in a long time. It will take a while to unlock everything and even then you'll be playing it constantly. In fact, I was so gripped by this game that nostalgic feelings of Tetris came to mind and then it dawned on me... Not since Tetris has a game of this caliber hooked me to a handheld like a fat kid to cake. It's a game that can be picked up for a minute or it's a game that can have you enthralled for hours. Everyone out there who owns a GBA or is planning to purchase one in the coming days, weeks or months should pick up this title. It will delight, bedazzle and captivate you to no end. Gems like this don't appear everyday, faults are not necessary and excuses are futile. Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ is genius, long live Wario!
